I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago, and like a difficult woman, I love it, despite its problems.

First off: even though it is marketed as an iPod DJ solution, I wouldn't plug the iPod into the dock for a professional gig. For home listening, it's convenient and cool, but it does several weird things with iPods, some of which require a reboot. For example if you have any Apple Lossless files on your iPod, it will allow you to try to load them, but then make that channel unavailable until reboot. Really, it should support Apple Lossless or FLAC or something.

Now, for the good part: it works really, really well with thumbdrives and DRM-free files. The software interface is rudimentary but intuitive, and it's such a wonderful thing to not ever have to find anything or put anything back in the physical world. Also, there's no laptop to spill a beer on and you don't look like you're checking your email while you're DJing.

The firmware is currently at 1.09a, so I am hoping for lots of feature upgrades in the future, most importantly support for higher quality audio formats (it does support CD quality wav, but those files take up a lot of space and the iDJ2 won't read tags on them).

With 16GB thumb drives going for under $40, you can have a lot of fun with this thing.
